Our Lady of the Angels School is a nurturing school community that will provide your child with a strong academic foundation. Your Kindergartner will love coming to school!  Our teacher to student ratio ensures that your child is able to be a happy and successful learner.

Our Lady of the Angels' Kindergarten program aims to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.  We provide a learning environment that stimulates curiosity and an eagerness for learning.

Language Arts

  • The kindergarten language arts program focuses on the broad areas of oral language, reading, writing, and word study.  Our reading series, Reading Street, provides students with opportunities to strengthen their phonetic reading skills, while using big books, indiviual readers, songs, and charts.

Numeracy & Mathematical Thinking

  • A good deal of math concepts in Kindergarten are developed during calendar time including patterning, number recognition and order, and the concepts of before and after.  We also provide hands on opportunities throuh a variety of math games and manipulatives; in addition to our textbook, Sadlier-Oxford Mathematics

Spiritual Development

  • Our Kindergarten  religion program is Catholic Faith based instruction, encouraging "kind words and actions."  We rely heavily on classroom discussion and take advantage of the natural curiosity and enthusiasm that a kindergarten aged child has.  Through the use of Bible stories, prayer, and songs, the children's love and understanding of God and Jesus will continue to grow.  The textbook that our class uses is Blest Are We.

Discovery of the World & Scientific Thinking

  • We promote inquiry and observation through hands on activities and experiments. Children use their five senses to explore the world through active discovery.  Science is often integrated across the curriculum at this level.  Resources we use include Harcourt Science and Scholastic Magazine Let's Find Out (includes an online component).

Motor Skills Development, Health & Safety

  • Small and large motor skills are fine tuned in Kindergarten by coloring, cutting, gluing, and writing, as well as playing a variety of games during our two daily recess times.   A full-time nurse is on staff, offering health screenings and special health programs.

Creative Expression

  • Students use their voices to sing as they discover different body movements through music and dance.  They explore different art media using crayons, paint, play dough, glue, etc.. They learn about the world around them using role playing and  drama.

OLA Kindergartners also have enrichment through weekly "Specials Classes": Spanish Instruction, visits to the Library Media Center, Music Instruction, Computer Instruction and Physical Education (including the Second Step Program.)

Optional programsoffered to kindergarten have included Lego Club, private piano lessons, S.T.E.M. Beginnings Program, Scholastic Book Club & Fairs, a daily Hot Lunch Program, Before and After School Program, Intramural Soccer, Title I Services, Angels Attic School Store, Health Screenings (vision, hearing, speech & language.)

Our kindergarten teachers use both informal and formal assessments to ensure that every student is learning to their maximum potential. Throughout the year, students are evaluated using benchmark assessments. Report card evaluations are done twice a year.

OLA Kindergarten provided my children with a wonderful foundation for elementary school. The curriculum balances academics, social skills, and spirituality. My children would look forward to school each day -- a testament to the Kindergarten program and the OLA school community.

We enrolled both our daughters in the Kindergarten program at Our Lady of the Angels.  Our expectations were exceeded!  The dedication of and attention from the teachers helped our daughters grow, mature, and advance physically and intellectually.  They could not have been more professional and caring.

Kindergarten at OLA provides the vital foundation every kid deserves. Because of the care and attention received at OLA, our children have a love of learning, and more importantly, they are taught how to be kind and loving to one another. We couldn't be more pleased as parents.
